India narrowly missed out on the 2023 ODI World Cup. He led the team to glory in the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. Hitman is also regarded as one of the greatest T20 batters of all time. Over the years he has secured a record six T20 international centuries, more than any other player. On another channel, Rohit stated, “Watching the T20 World Cup from home will be a strange experience. I have played in every T20 World Cup since the first edition. This time, I’ll be watching from the stands. It’s an unusual feeling. You truly understand what retirement means when you’re not part of a World Cup. PCB Intervenes to Resolve Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup Dispute; Report
The Pakistan Cricket Board supported Bangladesh’s stance on refusing to participate in the T20 World Cup in India. While BCB cited “security concerns” to play in India, Pakistan generously conveyed to the ICC about hosting Bangladesh’s matches. The apex body is set for a final discussion on Bangladesh’s participation on Wednesday. However, the cricket board, with the backing of their government, stayed adamant in their objection. They further appealed to shift their matches to Sri Lanka. As per the reports, a PCB source stated, “The PCB has said in the e-mail that the demand by the Bangladesh board is justified and must be accepted and that if there are any issues moving Bangladesh matches to Sri Lanka, Pakistan is ready to host all their games.” While PCB is yet to make any public comment on the issue, many sources have claimed that the Bangladesh government sought assistance for Pakistan. The latter is set to have all its matches under a hybrid model in Sri Lanka, with a general agreement with BCCI and ICC till 2027. The dispute started following a directive from BCCI, referring to “recent developments all around,” which led Kolkata Knight Riders to release Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman. Condemning this step, Bangladesh has banned the broadcast of IPL. ICC delegations and Bangladesh officials organised several meetings. However, neither party reached a consensus. Bangladesh is lined up to play all of their group-stage matches in India. Their campaign will start on 7th February against the West Indies.
“Not a Matter for Courts”: Delhi HC Dismisses Plea to Ban Bangladesh Cricket
A Public Interest Litigation seeking to bar Bangladesh from international cricket was dismissed by the Delhi High Court on Wednesday. The plea had sought the ban in response to reports of violence targeting the Hindu minority in the neighboring nation. A Division Bench led by Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia heard the case. They expressed strong doubts about whether the petition was maintainable. The judges noted that the requested relief involves foreign policy and international relations. These matters belong entirely to the executive branch of government. From the start, the Bench questioned the purpose of the petition. They remarked that courts cannot make policy decisions about foreign nations. Furthermore, the court cannot conduct inquiries outside of Indian jurisdiction. The Chief Justice noted that Article 226 has specific limits. This constitutional power cannot be extended to foreign governments. It also does not apply to international sports bodies. Furthermore, Indian courts cannot issue these orders to cricket boards of other nations. The Court pointed out that the petitioner wanted orders against the International Cricket Council (ICC). The petition also targeted the cricket boards of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. However, Indian courts have no legal authority over these foreign entities. The Bench warned the petitioner that this case misused the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) system. They cautioned that “heavy costs” (fines) could be imposed. This is because the petition was seen as a waste of the court’s time. The Chief Justice stressed that a PIL cannot be based on imagination or personal feelings. It must have a solid legal foundation. The Court also refused to consider a Pakistani court judgment cited by the petitioner. The Bench noted that Indian courts do not follow Pakistani legal precedents. Because the judges repeatedly questioned the case’s legal standing, the petitioner asked to withdraw the PIL. The Chief Justice allowed the withdrawal but gave the petitioner a piece of advice. He urged them to focus on more constructive work. The Court noted that such petitions lack legal standing and create an unnecessary burden. The final ruling was brief: “Since the petition is not maintainable, the petitioner asks to withdraw it. The petition is dismissed as withdrawn.”
Rahane Criticises Gambhir After Yet Another Defeat
Veteran cricketer Ajinkya Rahan hurled a set of criticisms at Gautam Gambhir. Playing against New Zealand, which was probably a New Zealand A or B team – with due respect to all the players – expectations were that India would win easily, probably 3-0.” India will face another ODI challenge at least after six months. The veteran cricketer advised utilising this break, assessing players and management. Crucially, set a goal for long-term setup. “But the way New Zealand played was amazing. So there will be questions – tough questions. But I feel, from India’s point of view, they just need to follow the process. Identify which players you are going to back, because six months down the line you’re going to play ODI cricket again. You have time. After the T20s, there’s nothing at all,” Rahane said.

In a recent press conference, Nazrul stated, “We can’t be forced to play in India with unreasonable and unrealistic pressure. Haven’t heard formally that they will exclude us and take Scotland instead. If ICC bows to BCCI and puts pressure on us, if they put unrealistic demands, we will not accept. There have been examples where India has refused to travel to Pakistan, and the ICC changed the venue. We have asked for a venue change for a logical reason. They can’t force us to play in India by exerting undue and unreasonable pressure”. The ICC, after a few rounds of discussion, has given Bangladesh a deadline of “21st January” to finalise its decision. The situation further escalated when a few reports suggested that the team could be excluded by ICC while Scotland could potentially replace them in the tournament. The apex body has given an ultimatum to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to find their final stature for the tournament. It is rumoured that if Bangladesh refuses to play in India, the ICC is likely to name a replacement for the team, as per the current ranking chart, Scotland has the highest possibility. The T20 World Cup is set to begin on 7th February. Bangladesh is scheduled to start their campaign on 7th against the West Indies at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
Ro-Ko To Face a Grade B Drop After BCCI’s Central Contract Revamp
Virat and Rohit may face a significant financial loss after a major overhaul of the BCCI contract system. The apex body of cricket is making headlines for another groundbreaking decision after their ODI loss against the Kiwis. As reported by ANI, India’s selection committee head, Ajit Agarkar, recently proposed rescinding the A+ category designation. The A+ categories will be effectively merged into the broader A category. If the Apex Council approves of this proposal, the new structure will be introduced with only three tiers, A, B and C, respectively. This decision will come with a dismissal note for the Rs 7 Crore bracket of the Indian team, which is enjoyed by Kohli, Rohit, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja. With this revamped framework, Kohli and Rohit are expected to transition to Grade B. A strategic implication stemming from the cricketer’s shift to being ODI-exclusive players following their departure from Test cricket. The apex board is yet to discuss the final meeting on this financial slab. The current slab remains unchanged, with a static structure of Rs 5 crore for Category A, Rs 3 crore for Category B, and Rs 1 crore for Category C, excluding match fees. Usually, BCCI proposes the contract change around February or March; the process will be a little advanced this year after the tragic defeats in the ODI and Test Series. According to the reports, the model promotes flexibility. It opened windows for the promotions. Gill, India’s Test and ODI captain, most certainly will be placed in the top tier.
